The App Store offers more and more games every day that allow you to compete with your friends, or even strangers on the other side of the world. Here's a list of the best choices so far.

8. Let's Golf

In addition to beautifully crisp grapfics and hyper-addictive gameplay, Let's Golf offers an excellent wi-fi multiplayer mode that'll have you competing against your golfin' buddies for hours. Just don't let the boss know what you're up to.

7. Live Poker

With an interface as functional as any online poker site, Zynga's Live Poker is a must-have for any wanna-be card shark with an iPhone. It integrates pretty seamlessly with your Facebook account, so it's easy to sit down with your friends and rob 'em of all their fake chips.

6. Real Tennis 2009

The App Store's best tennis game lets you rally with a partner over a local connection. Choose your best shot carefully from Real Tennis' true-to-the-game arsenal, and marvel at the beautiful graphics.

5. Real Racing

Few iPhone games sport a price tag as hefty as Real Racing, but just about none of them are as impressive. In addition to staggering quality in pretty much every area, a new update allows you to wirelessly tear up the streets with up to six of your speed-freak friends.

4. iPingpong 3D

iPingpong 3D might not be the best looking table tennis game at the App Store, but it definitely offers the best multiplayer action. You'll be trading spin-shots for hours once you get a feel for iPingpong's smooth mechanics.

3. Scrabble

One of history's most-treasured two-player games has been redesigned to fit inside your iPhone, and the transfer is virtually flawless. Now you can get in vicious arguments with your girlfriend wherever there's a wi-fi hot spot.

There might be thousands and thousands of game choices at the App Store, but the sad truth is that most of them aren’t worth your time -- or money. Here’s a list of the ten games that every iPhone or iPod touch owner should have. If you’re missing any, download it now so you’re not humiliated the next time somebody asks to check out your iPhone.

10.  Sway

The iPhone offers developers some pretty innovative options as far as controls go, and Sway is a splendid example of how they can be used fully. Its 3-D graphics are some of the best of any game on this device, and its spot-on ‘ragdoll physics’ deliver a truly fresh gaming experience.

9.  Bloons

With a price of only one smacker and 100 thoughtfully crafted levels, Bloons might be the iPhone game that’ll give you the most bang for your buck. The title’s already got ample street cred from its Flash version, and it brings the same puzzle/action formula over to the iPhone for a delightful yet often frustrating experience.

8.  geoDefense

The tower defense genre is a popular one for the iPhone and iPod touch, and geoDefense blows them all right out of the water. You’re forced to be pretty thrifty at the outset, but once you start mowing down some creeps, the money starts to roll in and you can spend a little more wildly. geoDefense is the game that taught me defense games don’t have to be boring.

 7.  Eliss

Eliss might be severely difficult, but it utilizes the iPhone’s unique capabilities better than any other game out there. And you won’t mind staring at its cosmically beautiful animation for as long as it takes; it’s like watching a fireworks display. Enchanting sound effects and one-of-a-kind gameplay also contribute to one of the best deals you can find at the App Store.

 6.  Wolfenstein 3D Classic

If this blocky first-person shooter looks familiar, it’s because you played it for dozens of hours on the family PC during your formative years. This perfect replica translates beautifully to the iPhone, but it’s a good bet that blowing away Nazis with a chain gun would be a hit on any device.

With new gems popping up at the App Store just about every day, it's damn near impossible to stay on top of the best game choices  your iPhone and iPod Touch. I took care of the hard part and compiled a list of the 49 best games out there.

Here they are in no particular order...

49. Hell's Kitchen     In this surprisingly entertaining extension of the popular TV show, Chef Ramsay challenges you to take on all the responsibilities of running a world-class restaurant. Your unyielding taskmaster will have you pulling out your hair as you prep and cook three courses, wait tables and try to get through a dinner service without hearing the word “rubbish.”

 48. Rolando     All the chatter you’ve heard about Rolando is true: it utilizes every one of the iPhone’s controls to deliver a stimulating, strategic platform experience. The captivating soundtrack, courtesy of DJ Mr. Scruff, makes this great game even greater, rounding out one of the best titles for the iPhone so far.

 47. Invinciball     Don’t give up on this new take on king of the hill before you get a feel for the unique controls – it takes a bit of getting used to. But once you get it down, you’ll feel like one of the American Gladiators, dominating the wimpy amateur competition.

 46. Oregon Trail     Oregon Trail doesn’t break any new ground, but it’s still a challenging adventure to guide your caravan of covered wagons from Independence, Missouri to the Pacific Northwest. Some of your kinfolk are going to break their legs, and some are going to get dysentery, but that’s the life of a pioneer – nobody said it was easy.
