If your first inclination when you see an adorable stuffed animal is to tear its head off and light its torso on fire, then Battle Bears is right up your alley. It’s a tap-shooter, but you’re not blowing away any zombies, monsters, or Nazis. Nope, the targets this time are cute and fuzzy teddy bears that’ll hug you to death if you’re not quick enough on the trigger.
For just a buck, Battle Bears delivers 20 levels of whimsically devious gameplay that increases in difficulty as it progresses. Each level introduces a new weapon to pick off the cuddly pink bullet-magnets that won’t give up until you spill their rainbow-colored blood. It might be a one-trick pony, but Battle Bears’ silly attitude and style go a long way and keep it from getting stale too quickly.
One frustrating tidbit is that if you do happen to be hugged to death (not so unusual for amateurs), you have to start from the beginning each time. However, the App Store description promises a remedy in a soon-to-come update.
Although it could use a few coats of gloss, you could find a lot of shooters worse than Battle Bears for your iPhone. Try the lite version before you surrender your dollar.
