Konami knows what it’s doing. If they had never dropped the price of Power Pros Touch to 99 cents, I’d never have bothered to download it. For starters, I’m not a huge fan of baseball video games. But more importantly, I already have an iPhone baseball game that surprised the hell out of me and racked up some impressive numbers in my play rotation. That said, Baseball Slugger isn’t exactly the whole ball game; it’s just a home run derby. So, I took advantage of the 300 percent price slash before the price jumped back up to $3.99.
I’d never played the Power Pros franchise on any console before this version, so I have no predisposition toward it nor any warms feelings of nostalgia. My conclusion: it’s worth the price I paid for it, but not four bucks.
It’s a nice escape to play the field every once in a while, but let’s face it – it’s way more fun to swing the bat. And with that in consideration, Baseball Slugger’s superbly simple control scheme and addictive nature, not to mention its permanent one dollar-price tag, make it the obvious winner.
Granted, Power Pros has some adorably bobblehead-esque graphics and undeniably solid play-by-play calling, but it’s no match for the champ. Bottom line: get this one only if you’d rather casually catch pop-ups than knock home runs out of the park.
