I won’t insult anybody by using more than a sentence to explain the ins and outs of a game as classic as Frogger, so I’ll let George Costanza show you in this terrible-quality video clip. Replace George with a frog, and there you have it.

It’s the same Frogger you know and love, but now it’s on your iPhone. Building on a solid foundation of already proven, whimsically simple gameplay means that the hard work is already in the bag. All that’s left is incorporating an easy and unobtrusive control scheme. No problem, right? ‘Fraid not.

You do have your choice of three control methods, but none of them feel right. Your options include slide, tap, and tilt. The slide method, which seems to work the best, requires you to drag your finger in the direction you want to go. Tap divides your screen into four quadrants, and touching each will send Frogger in the appropriate direction. Tilt’s self-explanatory, and trust me – it’s not worth a damn. It seems to me that a virtual D-pad in any corner would be a great alternative to the awkward choices currently available.

Despite its shortcomings, it’s still Frogger. And right now, it’ll only cost you a buck. Maybe you should take the leap while it’s cheap and hope for an update to fix the controls.
