In honor of the 25th anniversary of the original Boulder Dash, Chillingo has released a new version that not only offers you all of the classic levels in their original pixilated glory, but also a version of the game with updated graphics and speed. That’s right – two games for the price of one. Well, one game in two forms for the price of one.

You know the deal. You direct a miner (his name happens to be Rockford) in any of the four cardinal directions around a cave, picking up diamonds and doing your best to avoid being crushed by a boulder. Pluck enough diamonds to unlock the exit, get there before the clock runs out, and you’re home free. Sounds like a breeze, but like its description at the App Store says, ’easy to learn, difficult to master.’

Boulder Dash Volume 1 may seem priced a little steep at five bucks, but it offers a ton of retro content (80 caves) for you to play around with. Beware though, all of the gameplay is very similar, so make sure that’s what you’re looking for. Controls are easy to get down and there are more ways than necessary to customize them.

This game is perfect for those who just want to reminisce, but it’s also great for serious fans of action puzzlers.
