If Bloons sounds familiar, it’s because it’s already earned some street cred as a flash game. Same deal as before, but it packed 50 new levels in its suitcase when it made the move to the iPhone.

You’re a monkey who’s been given a limited amount of darts to toss at a bunch of balloons (bloons?), and you need to pop a predetermined number in order to advance to the next level. Sounds easy enough, but as the levels progress, so does the difficulty. By the time you get to level 25 you’ll have hit the reset button a million times and uttered more bad words than Pat O’Brien leaving a Valentine’s Day message on his girlfriend’s voicemail.

Aim with the big arrow and let go to fire a dart. Like the flash game, you can control the power of each dart by the length of the arrow when it’s released. And pay close attention the various types of balloons – you can’t beat some levels without harnessing their powers. Timing is everything, and the later levels are painfully unforgiving. But stick with it, and you’ll eventually be victorious. The problem is, the next level’s probably a little tougher.

Bloons’ description at the App Store promises a soon-to-come update that will double its battery of levels from 50 to 100 and allow you to customize levels of your own. Add that stuff to its already overflowing content, hyper-addictive gameplay and diminutive price tag, and we’ve got a 5 star game.

Get Bloons.
