Divide and conquer. It took me more than a few games, but that’s the strategy I’ve come up with for Flood-It! I’m still not sure it’s right, but my success rate is climbing ever-so-slightly.

The goal is to turn a huge checkerboard that’s randomly filled in with six colors into a boring, monochromatic square – to dare I say “flood it” with color. Always starting from the upper left corner, you have 22 chances to change the color of that square and each adjacent square of the color you just chose. Confused? I was too until I had a few games under my belt. Then it sort of just clicked.

To succeed, you better be sure you use each of those moves wisely. It’s much harder than it looks – don’t expect to win every time. Sometimes luck of the draw can make or break you. I can’t say for sure, but I think the random color placement makes some games impossible to win. It’s definitely a blast to try though.

Flood-It! would be a pretty good game for a couple of bucks, but for free it’s dynamite.

Get Flood-It!
